Fanny Stewart has a BA in Broadcasting and Media, with a Minor in Bible, from University of Northwestern in St. Paul, Minnesota. She uses her background in media and communications to edit and help produce televised sermons for a large church in Toronto and works for World Vision Canada. She is passionate about not only reading but loving the Bible.

In this episode, we talk about practical ways to apply God’s word in our everyday lives.

 Living Under God's Authority 

• It's amazing if you know God and know who He is
• It starts with your attitude
• You claim who He is and recognize who we are not
• He is the one who is leading
• Our reaction should be thankfulness

Practically Applying Scriptures

• Heart attitude

• See it as the Bible as big, beautiful book that you treasure
• Let Scripture be revealed by itself

Context

• We need to approach Scripture with context in mind

• Inductive Bible study is a literary tool

Inductive Study

• See the whole and then the meaning comes from it
• Observe the context
• What does it mean?
• How can it be applied?
• What words are repeated or themes are recurring?

Where to Start

• Sometimes it's overwhelming when we come to the Bible
• Our attitude will make a difference
• Remember it is for our benefit and nourishes us

You Can Do It

• It might seem easier if someone just tells you, but you will get more out of it when you study it
• Don't rush through
• Go out of your comfort zone, try different translations
• Look up words in the dictionary to better understand what you are reading
• Talk with others about the passage

Practical Application

• Take time to mediate on Scripture to make it ours
• How can you see God in your life?
• Saying "He is Lord" should change interactions with others
• Let the word be the anchor of your soul

In the Light of the Cross

• Apply scripture in the light of the cross
• It we don't, we can misunderstand it

How to Share with Others

• If you are being nurtured by Scripture, then your fruit will show it
• Have tangible ways that you are showing others that God is your Authority

• Remember you are serving God
• You are sharing the good news of salvation
• He gave us his Scripture to read
• We can learn to love it
