Dave Lane is back on the FOUR12 podcast, and he has been through a lot since his last interview!  Dave has been a youth pastor for 30 years and family pastor for past six years. Currently Dave is the satellite director for youth Unlimited/YFC Sarnia Lambton.  In this episode, Dave shares about what got him into burnout and what to be on the lookout for in your own life.

Recognizing Burnout

• Others might recognize it in you before you do
• It's okay to get counselling
• No energy for things he loved
• Critical and cynical; no joy
• He withdrew from others
• Crash after serving

How It Happened

• Wasn't listening to God
• Exhausted because of burning the candle at both ends
• Wasn't listening to those around him
• Saw being busy as a badge of honour
• No boundaries
• Focused on own time and not God's timing

What Was Happening

• Wanted to do his own thing
• Ran from God
• Would only go a certain depth in his time with God
• Filled life with other things 

Feelings That Defined That Time

• Lonely
• Lost
• Broken

 Embrace the Painful Moments 

• God had him work through things 
• Had to rely on God like never before
• Even in the pain, God was still so gentle
• God won't leave you there

Scripture

• Brings peace

Phil 4:13(ESV) "I can do all things through him who strengthens me."

Psalm 23:4(NIV) "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."

What Encouraged Dave During this Time

• Being alone with God is when He showed up
• God's protection
• Memorized scriptures came back to his mind
• Truth from God

• It's about giving up control so God can work
